January
- Last chance to view Mars this close to Earth.
This opportunity won’t happen again until 2016.
It is extremely bright and impossible to miss, appearing
as an orange star rising in the east each night, and
remaining visible all night long.
Jan
2 - Earth comes closest to the sun for the year.
Jan
3-4 - Quadrantid meteor shower, producing 120 meteors
per hour on average. They should appear bright blue, and
should not disappoint, resulting in at least 1 meteor
per minute. The best time to view this shower should be
the night of Jan 3rd - morning of the 4th at 12:40 AM
Central Standard Time.
Jan
8 - New moon at 5:37 AM CST.
