"Saturn" the
ringed planet can be seen within the
constellation "Leo the Lion".
Its rings are slowly moving to
an edge on appearance, and will not return for
many years. |
The constellation "Orion the Hunter"
is rising later each night, but can still be seen well
in the Southwest.
It contains the "Great Orion Nebula"
in Orion's Sword.
Many binoculars can easily detect this nebula.
"Canis Major" rises high at around
8 p.m. Contains the "Dog Star" Sirius, the
brightest star in the night sky.
"Ursa Major" or the Bear is also
clearly visible at 8 p.m.
It contains the famous "Big Dipper" (UK:
The Plow), home to the "Whirlpool
Galaxy".
The constellation "Taurus" can
also be seen at this time of year. It contains the "Pleiades"
or "Seven Sisters."
